Get Listed on The Probate Department

Reach people looking for local help at a difficult time

The Probate Department is rebuilding its Local Pages across England and Wales.

These pages are designed to help families find useful local information and local businesses when someone has died — from funeral and professional services to property, financial and practical help.

If your business serves one of the areas we cover, you can apply to be included.

Every genuine local business can start with a free basic listing.

A quick word while we build this

We are working through our existing Local Pages one area at a time.

Many of them already contain a lot of useful information, but we are updating, reorganising and expanding them as we go.

That means there may be the odd hiccup while everything settles into place.

If you spot something that looks wrong, a link that does not work, or information that needs updating, please let us know. We would much rather fix it.

Free Local Listings

Our basic listing is deliberately simple.

Level 1 — Basic Listing — FREE

Your listing includes:

Business name
Business address

That is all.

There is no charge for this level.

It gives genuine local businesses a presence within the appropriate service category without turning every Local Page into a collection of advertisements.

If you would like customers to be able to contact you directly, visit your website or see your business more prominently, you can upgrade your listing.

Enhanced Local Listings

Level 2 — Telephone Listing

Business name
Business address
Telephone number displayed as text

Level 3 — Web Listing

Business name
Business address
Telephone number displayed as text
Website address displayed as text

The telephone number and website are shown, but are not clickable.

Level 4 — Clickable Listing

Business name
Business address
Clickable telephone number
Clickable website link

This makes it particularly easy for someone using a mobile phone to contact you or visit your website.

Level 5 — Featured Business

A Featured Business receives an enhanced listing plus a prominent position within the relevant service category.

Featured positions may be limited.

We do not intend to sell unlimited Featured positions because, if everybody is featured, nobody really is.

Level 6 — Town Page Sponsor

Town Page Sponsorship gives one business substantially greater prominence across the relevant Town or Local Page.

This is separate from an ordinary category listing and will normally be strictly limited.

A Town Sponsor may receive prominent branding and visibility across the page without preventing other local businesses from appearing in their appropriate categories.

Why prices vary from place to place

We do not believe it makes sense to charge exactly the same price everywhere.

A business advertising across a densely populated city or metropolitan area potentially reaches far more people than a business serving a large but sparsely populated rural area.

Our prices therefore vary according to the area covered.

Factors may include:

Population and catchment area
Number of towns and communities covered
Local competition
Likely visitor numbers
Commercial activity
The type and value of the service being promoted

So a highly populated urban area will generally cost more than a large rural area with a much smaller population.

We are trying to keep the structure sensible and affordable rather than applying one national price which bears little relationship to the actual opportunity.

Annual payment options will normally provide a worthwhile saving compared with paying monthly.

Some categories may cost more

Not every enquiry has the same commercial value.

Some professional services can generate considerably more valuable work than others.

Higher-value categories may therefore carry a premium, particularly areas such as:

Probate and legal services
Funeral Directors
Financial and tax services
Other high-value professional services

We will keep this as straightforward as possible rather than creating dozens of complicated tariffs.

County and Regional Opportunities

Some businesses serve a much wider area than one town.

We therefore also offer opportunities covering Counties, Metropolitan Areas and larger regions.

These may include:

County or Metropolitan Area sponsorship
Regional advertising
Prominent positions on hub pages
Visibility across relevant Town pages
Inclusion in associated guides and other resources

County and Regional opportunities are paid positions.

They are separate from the free basic listings available to local businesses on individual Town pages.

Availability may also be limited so that advertisers receive meaningful visibility.

National Opportunities

Some organisations provide services throughout England and Wales rather than within one local area.

We are therefore developing a small number of National advertising, sponsorship and partnership opportunities.

These may be suitable for organisations offering services such as:

Specialist estate administration
Probate and estate services
Digital legacy and document storage
Financial services
Specialist property or estate services
National bereavement-related services
Other services genuinely useful to families after a death

National advertising will be kept separate from ordinary local listings.

We do not want large national advertisers to crowd out the local businesses the Local Pages are intended to support.

Your Local Page and Local Guide

As the new Local Pages are developed, we also intend to produce downloadable local guides containing practical information about what to do after someone dies.

Where appropriate, paid local advertisers may therefore receive visibility:

On the relevant Local Page

and

Within its associated downloadable local guide

This gives local advertising a useful life beyond the website itself.

Free does mean free

You do not have to upgrade.

A genuine qualifying local business can remain with its basic name and address listing without paying us.

Paid options simply provide more information, easier ways for visitors to contact you and greater prominence.

As paid advertisers join a category, their listings will naturally receive greater visibility than free listings.

What businesses can be listed?

The Local Pages cover a wide range of services that may be useful following a death.

These include funeral, estate administration, property, financial, legal and practical services.

If you are not sure whether your business fits, ask us.

We would rather consider a genuinely useful local service than create unnecessary rules simply for the sake of them.

Want to get listed?

You can apply for:

County or Regional Advertising – limited
A National Advertising or Partnership Opportunity – by discussion and must be good for consumers!

Tell us:

Which type of listing interests you

We can then point you towards the appropriate option.

Find the price for your area

Because prices vary according to the population, catchment area and commercial value of each location, there is no single price which applies everywhere. Look at the bottom of the relevant page for the Band Number.

This will show you the options available for your Town, County or area.

Prices shown are per month.

Higher-value categories

Funeral Directors and Probate / Legal services are charged at 50% above the standard rate because of the greater potential commercial value of enquiries in those sectors.

Pay annually and save

Pay for a full year in one payment and you receive 12 months for the price of 10.

For example, a £20-per-month listing costs £200 for the year rather than £240.

There is no obligation to renew at the end of the period.

Future price changes

Fees will normally be reviewed once a year and adjusted in line with inflation.

We also reserve the right to review prices in an individual area where competition or demand proves exceptionally high.

We will always give good notice of any price change, and you are free not to renew if the new price does not suit you.

If you have paid annually, your agreed price remains unchanged for the period you have already paid for.

Helping us bring you more visitors

A good proportion of the income generated from listings, advertising and sponsorship will be reinvested in promoting The Probate Department and its Local Pages, improving the content and attracting more visitors.

That benefits our visitors — and, importantly, the businesses advertising with us.
