Most if not all of the above are Members of the National Society of Allied and Independent Funeral Directors (SAIF) members of which are all independent undertakers. They are not part of a target driven national or international conglomerate or chain of undertakers. They privately owned and managed. Most members East Sussex funeral homes have been run by the same family for many generations.
Independent undertakers are renowned for their top quality service as much as for their caring, traditional approach to their local communities, 365 days of the year. SAIF has around 700 undertaker members nationally. By choosing a SAIF member when the need arises, you are taking on a trusted and caring professional undertaker who is dedicated to serving the needs of the local community and whose reputation relies entirely on doing that to the utmost of his or her ability.
In order to become a member of SAIF, an undertaker in East Sussex must have a trading history and/or extensive experience and/or qualifications in funeral service, must agree to comply with the code of practice for undertakers and must undertake a premises inspection. Only when all these criteria are met, does the Society’s Executive Committee meet to discuss the application when it is either accepted or rejected.
SAIF has a committee to monitor these criteria and to continually drive up our undertaker members already high standards. A robust disciplinary procedure runs in conjunction with a complaints procedure.
