Update 16th December 2019 from the Ministry of Justice:
Modernisation of Face to Face Service Provision in Probate
We are writing to inform you of the changes made to our provision of face to face services in our Probate Offices commencing December 2019.
The changes being proposed will allow us to increase efficiency in the processing of Probate applications by ensuring that more of our resources are focused on getting this done quicker. They will also mean that your visits to the office will be limited to only those that are essential therefore removing unnecessary and wasted journeys. These changes will allow staff to allocate the correct time for customer who do need face to face assistance.
These changes have been made in Civil & Family Courts across England & Wales & are in accordance with the Framework for the Provision of Front Office Services in the Civil Courts issued September 2008. – Newcastle Probate Registry
I am, therefore, writing to advise you that with effect from Monday 16 December 2019 we plan to permanently change the face to face service provisions within Newcastle Probate District Registry as follows:
Work which requires a face to face service from court staff and where there is currently no alternative method of providing that service will be dealt with at the following times:
Monday to Friday from 9:30am to 4:00pm Processes which may need to be dealt with in person are:
Caveats
Deposit of Will
Swearing of Affidavit
Inspection of Wills
Access to this service provision will be limited to only these classifications of work.
Newcastle Probate District Registry will no longer process routine work which does not require a face to face service provision and you will be diverted to the alternatives which are already in place such as on-line services, telephone, email and post.
