City of London Registering a Death

Registering a death in the City of London.

The Registrar’s office is open between 9.30am and 1.00pm, Monday to Friday. It is best to ring in advance to make an appointment.

Register a death in the City of London at:

Alternatively, there is an arrangement whereby you can use the Islington office to register a City of London death as follows.

Opening Hours.

Monday to Friday: 9.00am to 4:30pm Except on the first Thursday of every month, the Register Office will close at 1pm.

Appointments to Register a Death in the City of London.

Please call on 020 7527 6350 to book an appointment. Deaths need to be registered within 5 days.

An appointment, though preferable, is not essential as there is a walk in service for City of London deaths.  You should be seen within half an hour. Please note that between 12pm – 2pm there may be a longer waiting period.

A new National Births and Deaths Registration system was introduced in the Register Office which deals with City of London deaths in March 2007. This means that Birth and Death Registers are no longer written by hand. Instead, this information is now held on a central online database.
